Celebrate Beethoven’s Birthday with Juilliard
Concert: Cancelled – rescheduled for Fall 2021
Recorded conversation: On Demand beginning Wednesday, December 16
Zoom interview: Wednesday, December 16, 6:00pm MST
Due to factors relating to the pandemic, this week’s Juilliard String Quartet concert has been postponed until Fall 2021. The ticket you have already purchased will be good for the new concert, whether it is virtual or in-person. Thank you for understanding.
However—December 16th is Beethoven’s birthday and to celebrate the composer whose work we are highlighting all season as part of his 250th anniversary, we invite you to a special two-part event.
FIRST, we invite you to watch a video that includes a recorded conversation between the members of the Juilliard String Quartet, AFCM President Joseph Tolliver, and the composer Jörg Widmann, along with a behind the scenes look at the Quartet’s rehearsals and short performances of works by Beethoven and Widmann. The video is on demand beginning December 16 at 10:00am MT, and you may watch it at any time. The video includes:
Ludwig van Beethoven, String Quartet in C-sharp Minor, Op. 131
(movement III and the beginning of movement IV)
Ludwig van Beethoven, String Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 130
Alla danza tedesca (movement IV)
Jörg Widmann, String Quartet No. 8 (Study on Beethoven III)
Danza tedesca (theme and variations)
Ludwig van Beethoven, String Quartet in E Minor, Op. 59, no. 2
Finale: Presto
SECOND, we invite you to join AFCM and the Quartet on Zoom for a live interview and to ask your own questions of the artists. The conversation begins on December 16 at 6:00pm MST. To participate, please register in advance.
