Due to an unforeseen last-minute cancellation by the originally scheduled artist, percussionist Michael Yeung is unable to appear on this program. We are pleased to welcome saxophonist Don-Paul Kahl as his replacement. Don-Paul Kahl’s program will feature a balance of standard and contemporary works, including a duo performance with his longtime collaborator, clarinetist Jackie Glazier, as well as selections with piano.

Don-Paul Kahl

Renowned as an “artist beyond his time” by American composer John Corigliano and praised by Brutal New Music Reviews as possessing “the caliber of a soloist with whom composers dream to collaborate,” saxophonist Dr. Don-Paul Kahl, PhD performs internationally across Europe, the United States, Australia, Japan, and Southeast Asia. His appearances include major festivals such as KURAIA Festival, Tallinn New Music Days, and Musica Nova Festival.

A committed advocate for contemporary music, Don-Paul has premiered over 100 new works for saxophone and performed as a soloist with ensembles including the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, Musa Horti, and the Leuven New Music Ensemble. He is a prizewinner of the Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone Competition and has received top honors at the Saint-Saëns International Music Competition and the Concours d’Interprétation de la Ville de Boulogne-Billancourt.

An active chamber musician, he performs with Ensemble du Bout du Monde, Duo Entre-Nous (with clarinetist Jackie Glazier), Woodwork, and the Kahl & Nyce Duo. Don-Paul holds a PhD in Artistic Research from Universiteit Leiden through the DocARTES Program at the Orpheus Institute and completed advanced performance studies in Europe, with earlier academic training in the United States.

His debut solo album, Go Within, was released on the Equilibrium Label. Don-Paul Kahl is a Henri Selmer Paris and Conn-Selmer performing artist and performs exclusively on Selmer Paris saxophones.

Hannah Creviston, piano

Praised as “impressive and expressive” (Fanfare Magazine) and “superb…with great dexterity, rhythm, and touch” (American Record Guide), Hannah Creviston is an accomplished pianist known for her versatility as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborator. As a soloist, she won the Crane Annual Concerto Competition and was a finalist in the Arthur Fraser Piano Competition.

A dedicated advocate for contemporary music, Creviston has premiered numerous works by living composers. Most notably, she premiered Stacy Garrop’s Pieces of Sanity at Carnegie Hall with saxophonist Christopher Creviston. Her performances span a wide range of chamber and collaborative settings, and she has appeared at major festivals and conferences throughout the United States and abroad, including the World Saxophone Congress, North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conferences, and the International Viola Congress.

Creviston performs regularly as part of a duo with saxophonist Christopher Creviston. Together, they have released multiple recordings on the Blue Griffin and Albany Records labels, as well as independent releases, earning critical praise for performances described as “engrossing” (Fanfare Magazine) and “highly imaginative and expressive” (Denis Bédard). She is a member of the music faculty at Arizona State University.

 


Jackie Glazier, clarinet

Hailed for her “robust playing and virtuosic performance” (San Diego Tribune) and “beautiful and clear tone” (The Clarinet Journal), Jackie Glazier is an internationally active clarinetist whose work spans solo, chamber, and orchestral performance. She has appeared throughout North America, Europe, and Asia at venues including Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.

Glazier is a founding member of Duo Entre-Nous, a clarinet–saxophone ensemble with Belgian-based saxophonist Don-Paul Kahl, dedicated to commissioning and performing new works for the genre. Since 2016, the duo has been responsible for the creation of more than 20 new compositions and has released two albums of commissioned music, Fresh Ink (2021) and Progress (2024).

A passionate advocate for contemporary music, Glazier’s performances frequently feature world premieres and interdisciplinary collaboration, incorporating elements of movement, multimedia, and technology. She is also co-director of the Watershed Soundscape Project, a community-based, multidisciplinary initiative exploring the intersection of music, art, and environmental science in Southern Arizona.

An active orchestral and recording artist, Glazier has recorded for numerous international labels and regularly performs with orchestras across the United States. She currently serves as principal clarinet of the Grammy-nominated True Concord Voices and Orchestra and is Associate Professor of Clarinet at the University of Arizona.
