Music in the Schools went virtual
Each year, AFCM organizes (and pays) several local chamber ensembles to perform on site at schools in the Tucson area. This enrichment opportunity brings music to children across the socio-economic spectrum with the very basic goal of getting children interested by showing them first hand what music performance sounds, feels, and looks like.
In January this year, when school children around the globe were at home, logging on their computers every day to go through lessons with their teachers virtually, we cancelled those concerts. Instead, two of our ensembles–Southwest Strings and Lineage Percussion–agreed to be recorded so we might stream their concerts on demand.
The result was six new concerts for middle and elementary school children, available for free to any teacher or student around the globe.
