America’s Ensō Quartet takes its name from the Japanese Zen painting of the circle. Its AFCM concert draws largely from folk traditions: the lyrical Italian Serenade of Hugo Wolf and a Spanish serenade by Joaquín Turina, with Argentine dances suffusing Alberto Ginastera’s Second Quartet. As a bonus, Ginastera’s Third Quartet – really a dramatic song cycle – features phenomenal new-music soprano Tony Arnold as part of the Tucson Desert Song Festival.
Update July 2016: Yura Lee officially joins the Enso String Quartet and will perform for this event.
