Ludwig van BeethovenString Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp Minor, Op. 131
Two consecutive nights, two completely different Beethoven-centered concerts by one of AFCM’s favorite ensembles. The first night sandwiches a quartet John Adams wrote for the ensemble, and based on Beethoven fragments, between two Beethoven originals. The second night looks in the opposite direction, exploring how Haydn’s influence may be felt—and transcended—in Beethoven’s middle and late quartets.
