  • Joseph Haydn

Quartet in G Major, Op. 76 No. 1
  • Claude Debussy

Quartet in G Minor, Op. 10
  • Dmitri Shostakovich

String Quartet No. 3 in F Major, Op. 73

Shostakovich’s third Quartet is a chronicle of World War II, beginning with “calm unawareness of the future cataclysm” and ending with “the eternal question: Why?” Countering Shostakovich’s high drama are the jolly bustle of Haydn and the gentle warmth of Debussy, all performed by an Israeli ensemble whose interpretations are acclaimed for both beauty and muscular intensity.
